Beautiful Books October Edition 2017

beautiful books

Today I am participating in Beautiful Books hosted by Cait @ Paperfury and Sky @ Further up and Further in. This is a link up where writers share about their upcoming novels and the processes.

The information I am about to give you below is based on my current Work in Progress (WIP) that I have dubbed Adrian’s WIP for now. I’m not very far into it, but I also plan to have it as a main focus for NaNoWriMo. The post is a little later than planned, but it is here.

What inspired the idea for your novel, and how long have you had the idea?

I’ve had this idea for under a year. I’m not sure exactly how long, maybe a few months. Can’t say I exactly know where the inspiration came from. The main character came out of a minor character to another story I was exploring.

Describe what your novel is about!

My novel follows the path of Adrian Gotsanis as he struggles to find a path towards freedom and then grasps for a foothold in new circumstances and a new life that he barely thought was possible.

What is your book’s aesthetic? Use words or photos or whatever you like!

I haven’t really tried looking for any photos so I suppose it is words I must use.

Trust, freedom, new life, powerful gifts, mute and deaf, sci-fi, fantasy, gifts, family, leader

I haven’t really thought about the aesthetic in words so I hope it made sense.

Introduce us to each of your characters!

Adrian Gatsonis is my main character. He is 15 years old and has been a captive for most of his life. Despite being a captive he has an amazing capability for hope. He is very academic minded but also into Roping which is a sport I have created.

Altair Gatsonis. Adrian’s cousin. Older, but captive for just as long. Was renowned roper before an accident that left him injured and not long after, kidnapped. Ever since he has done his best to look out for Adrian in captivity.

Hebron Esken, Prince, heir, deaf and mute. Refuses to let his disabilities stop him from achieving what he wants to.

How do you prepare to write? (Outline, research, stocking up on chocolate, howling etc.)

For this one I prepared using the Snowflake Method for writing a novel. It’s the first time I’ve used it, but I’ve found it really helpful.

What are you most looking forward to about this novel?

I’m most looking forward to exploring this story. Although I know much of what is happening in this story I haven’t as thoroughly planned it as outlined in the Snowflake method. I have still left much to the imagination.

List 3 things about your novel’s setting.

  1. Sci-fi so cool technology
  2. Also fantasy in cool gifts for the characters.
  3. Totally unsure what the third fact should be.

I probably need to work on developing the setting more. These are very vague.

What’s your character’s goal and who (or what) stands in the way.

Adrian’s ultimate goal is freedom. It’s his captors and himself that stand in his way.

How does your protagonist change by the end of the novel?

Adrian begins the novel a very closed off person. Slowly through I have to see him become more open. He will also become more confident inTrust was hard to come by’

What are your book’s themes? How do you want your readers to feel when the story is over?

This story has barely begun so I think they will mostly develop as I write. However I do think there will be a theme of trust and family in it. Besides that I guess we’ll see.

Have you participated in Beautiful Books or Beautiful People link ups before? What WIP are you currently working on? Feel free to tell me your thoughts in the comments.

This sounds really interesting! I’ve never used the snowflake method for any of my plotting before, but I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how good it is, so I might have to try it. Good luck with NaNo!
