That Word: Number 3

That Word is a segment where I will be posting a new word each week. They are words that I’ve newly discovered or words I’ve known but wanted to be more thorough in knowing the meaning. This could be for you writer’s like myself looking carefully into the words we use or it could be for those people who are just interested in all kinds of different words. No matter which one you are, this post is for you. This week’s word is…

Laigh

Where I Discovered It

I discovered ‘laigh’ while playing words with friends.

Definition/s*

  1. Low
  2. A small valley or hollow
*Definitions sourced from dictionary.com

An Example Sentence

The laigh was the perfect place to hide.

My Thoughts

When I first saw ‘laigh’ I my first thought was laugh. However its meaning is vastly different. For its definition I definitely think that ‘laigh’ is a useful word that could be used instead of a small valley or hollow. However I also think it’s likely a rare word to be used. To my recollection I’ve never seen it used before.

As for how it sounds ‘ley’ is quite simple and very different to laugh.

What are your thoughts? Have you ever seen or heard of ‘laigh’? Do you think it is a word you would use in the future? Feel free to comment and tell me your thoughts.
